Romeoville, Ill. - With his collegiate soccer career over, Lewis goalkeeper Anthony Szymel (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) continues to shine in the classroom, as the Naperville, Illinois native has been named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Men's College Scholar All-America Second Team. Szymel was the lone selection to the squad from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Szymel, who holds a 3.56 cumulative grade-point-average in business administration, was also named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District Five Men's Soccer Team for the College Division. One of the top goaltenders in the country, Szymel finished the 2008 campaign ranked first in the nation in save percentage as he stopped 88.5% of the shots he faced, leading the Flyers to a berth in the NCAA Division II `Sweet 16'. He is a three-time Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection, three-time Delahanty Award winner - given to outstanding Lewis student-athletes who display academic excellence and has made the Dean's list in six out of a possible seven semesters. A Catholic University sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The mid-sized university is being honored for the fifth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report. For more information please visit www.lewisu.edu. ##LEWIS## |
