KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Two goals by junior Cory Mastey guided No. 23 Lewis over Truman State Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game. The win marked the Flyers' seventh straight victory. The last time the Flyers won seven straight was in 2003. Junior Jorge De Jesus stole an errant pass from a Truman defender and walked in and beat Truman goaltender Taylor Hyndman for an early unassisted goal at 4:57. At 65:53 Hyndman was unable to control the rebound after diving to stop a shot by sophomore Kipp Cartwright. Mastey was in perfect position to hammer home the rebound to make the score 2-0. Mastey added his second goal seven minutes later at 70:11, assisted by freshman Mardoche Beya. Truman out-shot the Flyers 13-11 but Lewis held a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Junior Anthony Szymel recorded both saves. Truman fell to 10-6-1 with the loss. The Flyers finish the regular season 14-4-0 (9-4-0 GLVC). The Flyers will host Bellarmine in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Sunday. Lewis fell to Bellarmine 2-1 earlier this season. |
