EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Lewis held No. 2-ranked Southern Illinois Edwardsville at bay in the first half, but the Cougars struck for two early second-half goals and went on to post a 3-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer victory Friday night. Lewis (6-6, 4-4 GLVC) limited powerful SIUE (10-1-1, 6-0-1 GLVC) to 14 total shots, six shots on goal and two corner kicks. Trevor House (Brian Higgins assist) broke a scoreless deadlock at 48:43, and Victor Pacheco (Mike Banner) made it 2-0 at 50:35. A goal by Ameen Attas (Ross Beveridge) at 74:20 provided the final margin for SIUE, which leads the GLVC. Brian Byrne made three saves for Lewis, which plays at Quincy Sunday. |
