ROMEOVILLE - It's always good to be in the right place at the right time, and that's what happened to Lewis University's TIto Lara Sunday in the Flyers' 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer victory over Missouri-Rolla. Lara was camped just a few feet from the goal when Jorge De Jesus drilled a shot from the left wing that hit the right post. He gathered in a convenient rebound and fired the ball past Missouri-Rolla goalkeeper Mike McNamee at 55:40 for his third goal of the season, and the Flyers (6-5, 4-3 GLVC) had all they needed to secure their second consecutive victory over a regionally ranked opponent. Brian Byrne stopped all six Missouri-Rolla shots on goal, including four in the second half, to post his third shutout and the team's fourth. McNamee made three saves for the Miners (5-5-2, 3-3-2 GLVC), who entered the game ranked No. 6 in the most recent NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll and left with a four-game winless streak. Next for the Flyers is Friday's game at Southern Illinois Edwardsville, the GLVC leader and No. 2-ranked team in NCAA Division II. |
