Tough Luck Befalls Flyers In 1-0 Loss To Saint Joseph's

Sept. 28, 2007

Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Despite holding a dominating 24-5 advantage in total shots, the Lewis Flyers found themselves on the short end of 1-0 decision to conference foe Saint Joseph's, Friday afternoon at the Lewis Soccer Field.

Saint Joseph's registered just three shots on goal for the entire game but benefited from an own goal at the 57:25 mark. The score occurred following a foul. The Pumas' Bojan Adler blasted a free kick in front of net from about 30 yards away, and a Lewis defender inadvertently knocked it in as he attempted to clear the ball off his chest to the left side of the net.

Lewis out-shot the Pumas 7-1 following the goal, but could not slip one past Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Alex Makin. The Pumas' goalie registered nine saves in the game, recording his team's first shutout of the season.

Flyers' keeper Anthony Szymel made two saves for Lewis. Sophomore Nestor Hernandez and freshmen Armin Vrebac and Mardoche Beya each tallied two of Lewis nine shots on goal.

The Flyers had 12 corner kicks, compared to four by the opposition. Saint Joseph's was whistled for 12 fouls to Lewis' eight.

Lewis fell at home for the first time this season and dropped to 7-4 (3-4 GLVC) overall, while the Pumas improved to 3-8 (2-4 GLVC).

The Flyers look to get back on track on Sunday, when they host Indianapolis at 2:30 p.m.
