EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - A game-tying goal by sophomore Kipp Cartwright with just over 13 minutes remaining in regulation had Lewis thinking upset over No. 21 Southern Illinois Edwardsville, but the host Cougars rallied back with a late tally to earn a 2-1 win, Sunday afternoon in conference play.

The game went scoreless for nearly the entire first half, but the Cougars grabbed a 1-0 lead when Mike Jones knocked in a deflection at 43:42.

The Cougars' lead stood for most of the second half until Cartwright evened the score when he received a long pass from freshman Zac Bond and booted it into the back of the net at 76:41. It was Cartwright's fourth goal of the season and the first career assist for Bond.

Team-leading scorer Dustin Atterian tallied the go-ahead marker for SIUE at 85:02 with an assist from Benny Jeffery.

The Cougars held a 16-2 advantage in shots and 9-1 edge in corner kicks. Lewis was whistled for 14 fouls compared to six by the host team.

The game was suspended with 3:05 to play in regulation.

Lewis slipped to 7-3 (3-3 GLVC), while the Cougars improved to 5-1-1 (5-0-1 GLVC).

The Flyers play next on Friday, hosting Saint Joseph's at 2:30 p.m.
