Sophomore Kipp Cartwright

Flyers Still Perfect At Home

Sept. 16, 2007

Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore Kipp Cartwright scored his third goal in as many games and lifted the Lewis Flyers to a 2-1 win over Missouri-Rolla, Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at the Lewis Soccer Field.

The Flyers improved to 6-2 (2-2 GLVC), while Missouri-Rolla fell to 3-4 (0-4 GLVC).

Cartwright's goal, off a corner kick, snapped a 1-1 tie 55:20 of the second half. He wrapped his kick in the corner of the net just behind a Rolla defender.

Like Friday afternoon, the Flyers had to come from behind to earn the win. Lewis trailed 1-0 at halftime after Daniel Stokes connected on a header off a free kick for the Miners with eight seconds left in the first.

Lewis answered in the opening minutes of the second half when Mardoche Beya knocked in a loose ball at 48:10.

Junior goalkeeper Anthony Szymel registered two saves to earn his sixth win. Mike McNamee had two saves in the losing effort.

Lewis out-shot the Miners 14-8 and committed five fewer fouls (12-7). Both teams had five corner kicks. Lewis was given two yellow cards. The Miners had one.

The Flyers look to make it three wins in a row on Friday when they travel to play Quincy at 7:30 p.m.
