LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Kipp Cartwright notched his first goal of the season, but the No. 16 Lewis Flyers came up one tally short in a 2-1 loss at Bellarmine, Sunday afternoon in conference action. Kieran Potterton put the host Knights up 1-0 with a goal off a free kick at 11:48 of the first. Teammate Travis Bakai made a 2-0 first-half lead with a header into the bottom left corner of the net at 28:54. Cartwright's goal, an unassisted score, came at 72:05, but the Flyers would not get any closer. Bellarmine goalkeeper Justin Welply stopped nine shots to earn the win. Flyer keeper Anthony Szymel made four saves. The Flyers held advantages in total shots (14-10) and shots on goal (10-6). Junior Cory Mastey led Lewis with three shots on goal. Lewis recorded 17 fouls to Bellarmine's eight. Both clubs had two yellow cards. The Flyers fell to 4-2 (0-2 GLVC), while Bellarmine improved to 4-2 (2-0 GLVC). Lewis looks to snap its two-game losing streak on Friday, hosting Missouri-St. Louis at 2:30 p.m. |
