ROMEOVILLE - Matt Field scored his first goal of the season, and the Lewis defense limited Drury to just two shots on goal in the Flyers' 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer victory Friday afternoon. Field became the seventh different Flyer to score a goal this season when he gathered a pass from TIto Lara and fired the ball past Drury goalkeeper Tommy Fulmer at the 57:13 mark. Lara's assist was his third, tying him for the team lead. Lewis (3-1, 1-0), ranked No. 9 in this week's NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll, earned decisive advantages in total shots (19-12), shots on goal (6-2) and corner kicks (6-0). Freshman goalkeeper Brian Byrne collected his second consecutive victory, both by a 1-0 count. Fulmer made five saves for Drury (3-2, 0-1), a former NCAA Division I program playing its first conference game as a GLVC member. |
