Flyers' Late Bid Turned Away

Sept. 8, 2006

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS - Anthony Marsico scored a late goal to give Lewis a chance, but 24th-ranked Indianapolis held on for a 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer victory over the 15th-ranked Flyers Friday night.

Marsico's unassisted goal, his third of the season, came at the 75:15 mark and sliced the Indianapolis lead in half. Unfortunately, Lewis couldn't score the equalizer against Greyhound goalkeeper Matt Spaulding, who made six saves.

Indianapolis (6-0, 3-0 GLVC) grabbed the lead on Kurt Grandin's goal at 27:36, and the Greyhounds made it 2-0 just before halftime when Nick Eddy found the back of the net at 43:34. John Higgins assisted on both tallies.

The Flyers (4-1, 2-1 GLVC) earned advantages in total shots (10-8), shots on goal (7-2) and corner kicks (7-4).

Lewis travels to Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
