ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Another game, another shutout and another victory. Much like the Flyers' opening contest, No. 13 Lewis defeated St. Xavier 2-0 by controlling the pace of the non-conference contest. The Flyers held dominating edges in shots (23-5), shots on goal (7-3) and corner kicks (10-2). Both Lewis tallies came in the opening period. Junior Art Rodriguez broke down the left side on a breakaway to beat the Cougars' goalkeeper at 23:44. Just over three minutes later senior Cory Mastey scored his first goal of the season. Senior Jorge De Jesus lifted a corner kick deep into the box. As Saint Xavier worked to clear it, Mastey found enough space to knock it home and give the Flyers a 2-0 edge. Lewis' two scores highlighted an opening period that saw the Flyers hold a commanding 17-2 edge in shots. The two scores were all Lewis needed, as they held it the rest of the way. Senior goaltender Anthony Szymel made three saves to earn his second straight shutout. Lewis is back in action on Saturday. The Flyers host Mercyhurst at noon. |
