GREENVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Cory Mastey's breakaway goal in double overtime lifted the Lewis Flyers to a thrilling 3-2 win over Tusculum, Friday night in the Flyers' season opener. Mastey's game-winning tally, his second goal of the game, was setup on a lead pass from freshman Jose Ibarra. Mastey's first goal of the game put Lewis up 1-0 at 27:55. Junior Craig McIntosh assisted on the score. Ibarra gave the Flyers a 2-0 advantage with an unassisted score off the post at 41:45. Tusculum answered with unassisted goals from Bruno Conceicao at 50:51 and Matthew Ross at 68:38. Junior Anthony Szymel made five saves for Lewis. Lance Moore stopped six shots for Tusculum. Tusculum edged Lewis in total shots 15-14, but the Flyers did not allow a single shot in either overtime period. Lewis managed four shots in the extra sessions. The Flyers play at Lincoln Memorial on Sunday at Noon. Lewis opens its home schedule on Wednesday, facing Upper Iowa at 3:00 p.m. |
