ST. LOUIS - Gabe Leon scored two goals and Joliet Township product Tito Lara added a goal and an assist Friday to lead Lewis to a 3-0 men's soccer victory over Missouri-St. Louis in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams. Leon's first goal, assisted by Lara and Justin Sanabria, came at 15:41. Lara scored his third goal of the season unassisted at 19:56, and Leon (Matt Field assist) concluded the first-half offensive burst at 25:21 with his third goal of the season. Lewis goalkeeper Jordan Gustman had to make just two saves for the shutout, the first of the year for the Flyers (2-3-2). Campbell McLaurin made seven saves for UMSL (2-4). Lewis outshot the Rivermen 17-6 and earned a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. The Flyers travel to Southern Indiana Sunday. |
