ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - It was the ultimate in heartbreaking losses. Ryan Coates took a feed from Philip Schloss and fired the ball past goalkeeper Jordan Gustman with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation Sunday to give Missouri-Rolla a 1-0 men's soccer victory over Lewis. The loss - Lewis' third in as many games against NCAA Division II Central Region opponents - dropped the Flyers to 1-3-2. Missouri-Rolla improved to 3-1-2. Missouri-Rolla entered the game ranked No. 4 in the Central Region, while Lewis was ranked No. 6. Coates' goal was his team-leading seventh of the season. Gustman made five saves for the Flyers, and Missouri-Rolla's Dan Larson stopped all four Lewis shots on goal. Lewis opens Great Lakes Valley Conference play Friday at Missouri-St. Louis. |
