2008 Highlights: Named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Five Men's Soccer Team, NSCAA/adidas College Scholar All-America Second Team, Academic All-GLVC and Delahanty Award winner, given to Lewis student-athletes for academic excellence...appeared in all 19 games between the pipes for the Flyers and composed a record of 14-1-4 with 10 shutouts, 0.52 goals-against-average and nation-best 88.5% save percentage...for his efforts, Szymel was named to the All-GLVC Second Team and Daktronics Midwest Region Second Team...was 9-1-1 in GLVC play with a goals-against-average of 0.73, 81.4% save percentage and four shutouts...made crucial save in shootout victory against Rockhurst to advance to NCAA `Sweet 16'... ended season on 14-match unbeaten streak...opened '08 season with four consecutive shutouts against Northwood (Aug. 29), Saint Xavier (Aug. 31), Oakland City (Sept. 4) and Bellarmine (Sept. 12)...stopped six shots on his way to a 2-0 shutout over Truman State (Sept. 28)...shutout both Kentucky Wesleyan (1-0, Oct. 5) and Quincy (2-0, Oct. 10)...stopped six shots as the Flyers defeated Rockhurst (Oct. 19) in a shootout victory...did not surrender a regulation goal in the Flyers' last 287:55 of action over three games, all of which were shootouts.

2007 Highlights: Academic All-GLVC, recipient of Lewis' Delahanty Award for academic excellence among student athletes and a Deans' List student both semesters...NSCAA All-Region second team...Daktronics All- Region second team...All-GLVC second team...posted a career-best 17-5-0 record with a career bests in goals-against average (0.86), saves (68), save percentage (.791), shutouts (6) and minutes (1884:55)... helped Flyers capture GLVC title with back-to-back shutout performances vs. Indianapolis (Nov. 2) and at unbeaten No. 1 Northern Kentucky (Nov. 4)...also recorded shutout wins vs. Upper Iowa (Aug. 29), vs. Northwood (Sept. 1), at Quincy (Sept. 21), vs. Indianapolis (Sept. 30), at Kentucky Wesleyan (Oct. 5), vs. Wisconsin-Parkside (Oct. 19) and at Truman State (Oct. 21)...set season high with seven saves in GLVC tournament game vs. Indianapolis (Nov. 2).

2006 Highlights: CoSIDA All-Academic first team, Academic All-GLVC, Delahanty Award recipient and a Deans' List student both semesters...NSCAA All-Region second team...All-GLVC first team...named GLVC Player of the Week (Sept. 18)...posted a 9-5-0 record with a 0.97 goals-against average...recorded 48 saves and allowed 14 goals in 1298:17...set career high with eight saves in 4-1 win at Missouri-Rolla (Sept. 22)...posted 1-0 shutout wins vs. Southern Indiana (Sept.1), vs. Southern Illinois Edwardsville (Sept. 17) and vs. Bellarmine (Sept. 29)...recorded back-to-back shutouts vs. Southern Indiana (Sept. 1) and Kentucky Wesleyan (Sept. 3) and again vs. Quincy (Sept. 15) and Southern Illinois Edwardsville (Sept. 17)...made five saves at Northwood (Aug. 24) and at Saint Joseph's (Sept. 10)...had four saves at Saginaw Valley State (Aug. 26).

2005 Highlights: Academic All-GLVC, Delahanty Award recipient and a Deans' List student both semesters...played in eight games and started one...posted a 0-1 record with a 1.09 goals-against average (three goals allowed in 246:59), three combined shutouts, eight saves and a .727 save percentage...in his collegiate debut, made a season-high three saves and did not allow a goal in the Flyers' 4-1 win over Northwood.

Prep/Personal: Earned three varsity letters as a goalkeeper for Naperville North...three-time all-conference and all-sectional performer...as a senior, was Naperville Sun All-City, DuPage County all-area and team captain, with a 1.23 goals-against average and five shutouts...helped lead North to a 20-5-1 record and the league title (7-0) as a junior, when he posted a 1.00 GAA and eight shutouts and was named Daily Herald All-Area Special Mention, Naperville Sun All-City and All-Tournament at the Plainfield Central tournament ...as a sophomore, registered a 0.97 GAA and nine shutouts as North went 17-9 and won conference (7-0), regional and sectional crowns and placed fourth in the state ... named Daily Herald All-DuPage honorable mention ... played for the Sockers U18 club ... was a part of six Illinois State Cup championship teams, a national qualifier, two regional semifinalists, two teams (U15 and U17) that were ranked No. 1 in the nation, and a U16 team ranked among the nation's top five ... honor roll student...son of Andy and Joan Szymel...business administration major.
