Lewis Women's Golf Coach Skip Steffey Appointed As Head Men's Golf Coach

June 15, 2009

Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University Athletics Director Dan Schumacher announced on Monday (June 15) that Flyers head women's golf coach Skip Steffey has accepted additional responsibilities and will take over the helm of the Lewis men's golf squad, replacing the retired Dennis Troy.

As the women's golf coach, Steffey was a part-time coach, but will now assume full-time responsibilities.

"We've decided to make an investment into our golf program and I knew that we did not have to look any further than Skip Steffey," Schumacher said. "His dedication to his players, both present and past, and his golf knowledge is unquestioned. I look forward to seeing both programs grow."

Last season, Steffey saw two of his players Amy Sachs (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South) and Jamie Siedlaczek (Canton, Mich./Salem) place in the top-10 at the Great Lakes Valley Conference women's golf tournament, marking the first time since the 1998-99 campaign that two Flyers have accomplished that feat. For his efforts, Steffey was named the 2009 GLVC Women's Golf Coach of the Year.

"I'm thrilled to take on the additional challenge of coaching the men's golf team," Steffey said. "The overall opportunity to be a part of Lewis Athletics on a full-time basis is great. I welcome the challenge of coaching the men's team and I hope to build upon what Coach Troy has done for the past 15 years."

A Catholic University sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The mid-sized university is being honored for the fifth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report. For more information please visit www.lewisu.edu.
