INDIANAPOLIS - Junior Casey Pyne (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington/Black Hawk College) is tied for third overall following the opening round of the NCAA Division II Preview at the Sagamore Golf Club on Monday.

Pyne totaled a 76 in high winds that forced tournament organizers to cut the originally planned 54 holes to 36.

"It was a great round by Casey," head coach Skip Steffey said. "He maintained his composure the entire day, recording 14 pars and four bogeys. I don't think he hit a bad shot all day."

Senior Paul Dagys (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) was second on Lewis and tied for 54th overall with an 85. A shot back with an 86 was senior Peter Tanaka (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) to tie for 63rd. Sophomore Nick Quagliano (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) totaled a 90 to tie for 82nd. Junior Logan Watts' (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) 91 tied for 84th.

Lewis' 337 puts them tied for 13th with Cameron University and Missouri-St. Louis. Central Missouri leads after day one thanks to a 309.

"I've never seen a DII tournament where only 29 of the 90 competitors broke 80," Steffey said of the adverse conditions on Monday. "The conditions were extreme to say the least. We'll refocus for tomorrow and try to climb back into the top nine."

The Flyers wrap up the tournament on Tuesday.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 10th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
