WEST CHICAGO, Ill. - Lewis University junior Jason Buffone tied for sixth place and the Flyers, the only non-NCAA Division I team in the field, finished a respectable ninth at DePaul University's 15-team Blue Demon Invitational Monday and Tuesday. Buffone carded rounds of 68-76-77 to finish at 221, 11 strokes behind champion Brian Norman of Southern Illinois but just four strokes out of second place. His opening-round 4-under-par 68 was the best round of the tournament, played at Prairie Landing Golf Club and won by SIU (874). Flyer freshman Rob Peters (77-73-79=229) tied for 18th in the 77-player field. Also competing for Lewis were senior Dean Katsaros, tied for 52nd (78-76-84=238), senior Tres Steffey, tied for 57th (78-77-84=239), and freshman Lloyd Roth, tied for 59th (76-82-82=240). Lewis, which concluded its fall season, posted rounds of 299-302-322 to finish at 923. The Flyers defeated Dayton, DePaul, Evansville, Cincinnati, Loyola Chicago and Bradley. |
