Men's Basketball: Lewis at Notre Dame (EXH.) Game Notes in PDF Format
Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team continues its tradition of taking on top Division I squads during the preseason to prepare themselves for the always tough Great Lakes Valley Conference slate. Sunday night will be no different as the Flyers head to South Bend, Indiana to square off with Notre Dame at 7 p.m. (EST) at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center. The game will be broadcast live on Lakeshore Public Television with Dave Bernhard providing the play-by-play and Scott Slocum with the color analysis. The game can also be found on 1340 WJOL with Mark Vasko calling the play-by-play for the Lewis Sports Network. Head Coaches: Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost enters his fourth season at the helm of the Flyers and has a record of 51-36 (.586). In 12 seasons of coaching, Trost owns a mark of 204-122 (.626). Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey has a career record of 287-153 in 14 years as a head coach and a mark of 188-101 as the Fighting Irish skipper. Block Party: Sophomore Marty Strus made quite the impact as a freshman in 2008-09, as the 6-foot-10 center set the Lewis single-season record with 50 blocked shots. As a team, Lewis surpassed the previous team blocked shots record of 108 with 110 swats in `08-'09. Point Person: With the graduation of a pair of 1,000-point scorers in Brandon Dagans and Jason Genova, the Flyers will have to look to replace that output. Leading returning scorer Dennis Thomas (10.2 ppg.) will move from point guard to shooting guard, while sophomore Chris McClellan will take over the point guard duties for the Flyers. As a freshman, McClellan converted a team-best 43.1% of his three-point attempts. Good Genes: Sophomore forward Matt Toth chose a different athletic path than his father Tom. Tom Toth played five years in the National Football League, including starting 12 games at right guard for Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins in 1987. He's Tall: Strus is one of four players in the GLVC who stand at least 6-feet-10 inches tall. Charity Stripe: Lewis enjoyed its best performance from the free throw line in 10 years, as the Flyers knocked down 73.4% (375-for-511) of their attempts last season. McClellan shot a team-best 94.1% (32-for-34) from the free throw line. |
