Feb. 19, 2007 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University sophomore forward Jason Genova has been selected Great Lakes Valley Conference men's basketball Player of the Week. Genova averaged 27.5 points and shot .606 from the floor overall and .545 from 3-point range - his best back-to-back shooting games this season in both categories - in two important victories last week that put the Flyers on the verge of qualifying for the GLVC Championship tournament. Genova tallied career highs of 31 points and 11 field goals (11-of-18) and was 6-of-11 from beyond the arc and 3-of-4 at the foul line in an 87-70 win over Saint Joseph's on Thursday. He played all 40 minutes, going the distance for a sixth time this season. He was the game's leading scorer again Saturday in the Flyers' 65-60 victory over Indianapolis, netting 24 points on a 9-of-15 shooting effort that included another 6-of-11 performance from 3-point distance. Genova has made at least four 3-pointers in 10 games this season. Genova leads the GLVC in minutes (37/game) and is No. 3 in 3-point field goals (2.92/game) and No. 8 in scoring (16.3/game). Lewis plays its final home game Tuesday, hosting Wisconsin-Parkside at 7:30 p.m. A Lewis victory would clinch a GLVC tournament berth for the Flyers (15-10, 10-7), who are in second place in the GLVC East Division. |
