Men's Basketball: Lewis vs. UW-Parkside Game Notes in PDF Format
Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team continues its trek through the GLVC North, as the Flyers (13-9, 5-8 GLVC) welcome UW-Parkside (8-14, 3-10 GLVC) to Neil Carey Arena on Saturday (Feb. 6) night for a 7:45 PM tip-off. Saturday's game will be broadcast on WJOL (1340 AM) and can also be found on LewisFlyers.com with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-play for the Lewis Sports Network, along with live stats and video streaming. The game will also be aired live on LUTN. Head Coaches: Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost is in his fourth season at the helm of the Flyers and has a record of 64-46 (.582). In 13 seasons of coaching, Trost owns a mark of 217-131 (.624). UW-Parkside head coach Luke Reigel is 83-108 (.435) in his seventh season as the Rangers' skipper. All-Time Series: Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers hold a 29-23 advantage over UW-Parkside in their all-time series. Last Time We Met: Lewis senior guard Brandon Dagans scored 30 of his game-high 34 points in the second half , Including six tallies in the final minute, to help the visiting Flyers to the 84-78 win over the host Rangers on February 26, 2009. Last Time Out: Lewis, behind a game-high 24 points from sophomore guard Chris McClellan, staved off a rally from Saint Joseph's and held on to the 78-76 win over the Pumas on Thursday night. From Way Downtown: McClellan has knocked down at least one three-pointer in the Flyers last 17 contests. During that span, he is shooting 45.5% (41-for-90) from beyond the arc. From Beyond The Arc: Lewis junior guard Dennis Thomas knocked down a pair of three-pointers against Saint Joseph's on Thursday (Feb. 4) night, giving him 100 for his career, good for eighth place in school history. Close Calls: Lewis has held second half leads in seven out of the Flyers' nine losses this season. Fab Frosh: Rookie guard David Bryant is currently averaging 8.1 points-per-game, which is the most by a Flyer freshman since Brandon Dagans averaged 8.4 tallies-per-contest during the 2005-'06 campaign. Block Party: Sophomore center Marty Strus needs six more blocked shots to have sole possession of second place in school history for blocks. Strus needs nine more swats to reach 100 for his career. Knocking Them Down: Strus currently leads the GLVC with a 63.4% (78-for-123) field goal percentage. In the Flyers' last seven contests, Strus is shooting 74.4% (29-for-39) from the floor,. Go-To Guys: Lewis has had eight different players lead the Flyers in scoring in at least one game this season. Dead Eye: With a 3-for-4 performance from the charity stripe on Thursday night against Saint Joseph's, McClellan became Lewis' all-time leader in free throw percentage, knocking down 88.7% (102-for-115) of his attempts. Three's Company: Since the 2000-01 campaign, Lewis has made at least one three pointer in 282 straight games. If The Season Ended Today: Lewis would play Indianapolis in the first round of the GLVC Men's Basketball Tournament, hosted by Drury, at 1 PM on Saturday, February 27. Key To Success: Lewis has won the last three outings over the Rangers, shooting a combined 58.5% (103-for-176) from the field.
