INDIANAPOLIS - A furious rally in the game's waning moments gave Lewis a chance to capture a second consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference road victory Saturday, but Indianapolis survived the scare and posted a 94-87 victory over the never-say-die Flyers.

Indianapolis led by 21 points twice in the second half and held a seemingly safe 87-71 cushion with 3:00 to play.

A 10-0 Lewis spurt, ignited by a Randy Wright 3-pointer, shrank the Greyhounds' lead to 87-81 with 1:10 left. DeAndre Williams' conventional 3-point play, two Anthony Scala free throws and a John Loeffelholz layup followed Wright's trey.

David Logan made just the front end of a two-shot foul on Indy's next possession to leave the door open. But the Flyers didn't convert on their next two tries, and the Greyhounds sealed the deal by making six straight free throws in the final seconds.

Lewis was sharp in the first half, shooting a blistering .615 (16 of 26) overall, .727 (8 of 11) from 3-point distance and .750 (6 of 8).

But Indy (5-2, 3-2 GLVC) netted six 3-pointers of its own, including three by Logan, and converted 11 of 15 at the foul line to forge a 49-46 halftime lead.

The Flyers (4-5, 1-5 GLVC), who made seven of their first eight field-goal attempts, assembled a 15-2 run that gave them a 19-7 lead with 14:01 left. Scala nailed three consecutive triples and scored 11 of his 14 first-half points during the outburst.

Meanwhile, the Flyer defense was giving Indianapolis fits. The Greyhounds went almost five minutes without a basket, missing seven consecutive shots and managing just four free throws during that stretch.

Unfortunately, the Greyhounds regained their shooting touch and gradually chipped away at the Lewis margin. Indianapolis took the lead for good, 43-42, on a Logan 3-pointer with 2:20 to go in the first half.

Indy began the second half with a 16-4 run for a 65-50 edge at the 14:21 mark, and eventually the Greyhounds led 82-61 with 7:56 remaining. But the determined Flyers didn't give up, holding Indianapolis to just one more basket the rest of the way to set the stage for their impressive comeback.

Scala tallied 25 points to lead Lewis in its highest scoring output of the season. Loeffelholz tied his season high of 15 points, Williams scored 11 points (all in the second half) and tied his career best of 7 assists, and Wright scored 10 points.

Dustin Warfield came off the bench to snag a team-high and career-high 8 rebounds, and Steve Turner added 6 boards.

For Indianapolis, Lawrence Barnes scored 25 points and tied his career best of 10 rebounds. Logan collected 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists, Mike Adibe had 13 points and 12 rebounds, Cory Bennett contributed 13 points and 6 assists, and Jon LaBad had 8 rebounds.

The Flyers take a week off before playing a non-conference game at Northwood (Mich.) next Saturday.
