Nov. 16, 2007 SOMERS, Wis. - The Flyers won their season opener against Lake Superior State 78-76 on two free throws by senior Dustin Warfield with 34 seconds remaining Friday afternoon. The game was part of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Warfield finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Junior Jason Genova had a game-high 20 points. Senior Stephan Bolt recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Matthew Marino added 14 points. Behind 54 percent shooting from the floor in the first half the Flyers built a 13 point halftime advantage. The Lakers rallied to take their first lead of the second half 74-73 at 2:27 on a Scott Perkins layup. A layup by Bolt gave the lead right back to the Flyers. Tim VanOudheusden hit a jumper with 54 seconds remaining to give the Lakers the lead again. Genova missed a three on the next possession but Warfield grabbed a huge offensive rebound and then earned a spot on the line after being fouled to set up the game winning free throws. Genova added another point from the foul line to give the Flyers a two-point lead. A desperation 3-pointer by the Lakers' Mike Rader was no good and the Flyers pulled out the victory. Lewis plays Michigan Tech tomorrow at 3 p.m. |
