Flyers Fall To Torrid USI

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Lewis ran into a hot-shooting Southern Indiana squad Saturday afternoon and came away with an 89-54 loss to the nation's 16th-ranked NCAA Division II team and Great Lakes Valley Conference leader.

Southern Indiana (19-4, 14-2), which leads the GLVC by two games with just four to play, sank 16 of 32 shots from 3-point range and shot 60.8 percent (31 of 51) from the floor overall.

The Flyers (9-14, 4-12) fell behind 9-0 in the first 2:29. USI, ranked No. 2 in the Great Lakes Region, gained a double-digit lead for good, 15-5, with 13:51 left in the first half.

The Screaming Eagles led 43-27 at halftime and increased their cushion in the second half by shooting 65.4 percent (17 of 26) from the field.

Steve Turner topped the Flyer scoring chart with nine points, followed by John Loeffelholz and DeAndre Williams with eight apiece. Loeffelholz had four rebounds and Dustin Warfield tallied four assists.

The Flyers play their final home games of the season this week, hosting Bellarmine on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Northern Kentucky on Saturday at 3 p.m.
