Men's Basketball: No. 2 Southern Indiana 80, Lewis 57 in PDF Format

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team learned what it takes to become the No. 2 team in the country, as nationally-ranked Southern Indiana used a 54.1% (33-for-61) outing on the floor on their way to the 80-57 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Flyers at Neil Carey Arena on Saturday (Jan. 30) afternoon.

"They're a good team and I give them all the credit," Lewis head coach Scott Trost said. "I didn't think we fought, again. When they make a run, you've got to be able to make some plays, get some stops or get a rebound. I don't think we did that tonight, and that's the disappointing thing.

"Our guys know that (Southern Indiana) is a darn good basketball team," Trost continued. "We just have to keep plugging away and keep getting better."

With the victory, Southern Indiana remains undefeated at 19-0 overall and 10-0 in the GLVC, while the Flyers fall to 12-9 on the campaign and 4-8 in conference action.

USI senior guard Jamar Smtih, the leading scorer in the GLVC, posted a game-high 17 points, including three trifectas to lead the Screaming Eagles offensive attack. USI senior forward Tyrone Bradshaw posted 14 points, while center Mohamed Ntumba added 12 points and a game-high six rebounds. Screaming Eagles reserve forward Isaac Stoll added 10 points and five boards off the bench.

The Screaming Eagles were able to take advantage of 16 Flyer turnovers, turning those miscues into 31 points. USI held a solid advantage on the glass, as well, out-rebounding Lewis, 34-21, including 15 offensive rebounds.

Lewis' backcourt of junior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) and Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) each scored 15 points in the loss, while sophomore Marty Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) added 10 points.

Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 4) night, as the Flyers host Saint Joseph's for a 7:45 PM (CST) tip-off at Neil Carey Arena.
