Tyrrell's Four Hits, Jenkins' Four RBI Not Enough For Flyers

May 3, 2006

Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

KENOSHA, Wis. - Kevin Tyrrell enjoyed a successful return to the Lewis University baseball lineup on Wednesday, collecting four hits in the Flyers' Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader loss to Wisconsin-Parkside.

The host Rangers put together big innings in both games, scoring six runs in the third inning of a 9-4 opening-game victory and plating seven runs in the fourth frame of the nightcap en route to a 16-5 win.

Tyrrell was 2-for-3 with a double in the opener and 2-for-2 in game two. Darryl Jenkins had a hit in each game, extending his hitting streak to nine straight and 18 of 19 games, and drove in four runs on the day.

In the opener, the Flyers (10-42, 9-35 GLVC) took a quick lead in the first inning on a Phil Marchinski single and Jenkins' triple. But Wisconsin-Parkside (24-27, 21-22 GLVC) tallied two runs in the bottom of the first, six in the third and another in the fifth to take a 9-1 lead.

Lewis scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh. Jim Gabriel singled and Tyrrell doubled ahead of Billy Duffy's two-run single in the sixth, Duffy's second hit of the game. Victor Naut scored on a wild pitch after tripling in the seventh.

John McGowan (3-4) pitched five innings to earn the victory, while Tommy Rawski (2-2) shouldered the loss.

The Flyers drew first blood again in the nightcap, this time with two runs in the third on Jenkins' single. The lead was short-lived, however, as Wisconsin-Parkside retaliated with four runs in its half of the third prior to its seven-run fourth.

Lewis added a run in the fifth on Jenkins' sacrifice fly that scored Duffy, who had singled. The Flyers closed the scoring in the ninth, as Duffy picked up an RBI on a bases-loaded error by the second baseman with the second run crossing on the same play.

Nicolas Larson (2-0) allowed just one hit in three relief innings to notch the win, while Matt Andrzejewski (0-2) absorbed the loss.

The Flyers host Quincy on Saturday in a GLVC doubleheader that begins at 4 p.m.
