KENOSHA, Wis. - Great Lakes Valley Conference leader Wisconsin-Parkside flexed its muscles Tuesday in a 7-3, 14-2 doubleheader sweep of Lewis. After Parkside grabbed a 4-0 lead in the third inning of game one, the Flyers closed the gap to a single run in the fifth. Jim Gabriel's double was followed by walks to Sam Sacco and Brian Clancy, and Brandon Niewinski's two-out double cleared the bases. The Rangers, however, retaliated with three more runs in the sixth to secure the win in the seven-inning affair. Mike Smith was 2-for-3 for the Flyers. In the nightcap, Wisconsin-Parkside (29-12, 22-6) jumped to an 8-0 cushion after five innings. The Flyers scored their runs in the sixth when Dave Tolchin's two-out single plated Niewinski, who had singled, and Phil Marchinski, who had doubled. Clancy was 3-for-4 and Sacco and Niewinski were 2-for-4 for the Flyers (8-36, 6-24). Lewis travels to Kentucky Wesleyan for a pair of GLVC doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday. |
