ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Ryan Duran experienced the highs and lows of baseball in the same game Sunday as Lewis dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference decision to Missouri-Rolla at Brennan Field.

In the lineup as the designated hitter, Duran went 3-for-4 at the plate, helping Lewis (4-22, 3-14 GLVC) outhit Missouri-Rolla (12-14, 5-11 GLVC) 7-4. His sixth-inning double gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead.

After starting pitcher Adam Stabosz issued a two-out walk in the seventh, Duran (0-5) came on in relief and surrendered a double that allowed Missouri-Rolla to make it a 2-1 game. In the eighth, the Miners' Thomas McCormick hit his first home run of the season, a game-winning two-run shot to right-center.

Ryan McManaman led off the Lewis sixth with an infield hit. He moved to second on Joe Musolino's sacrifice and to third on Billy Duffy's single, and scored on Mike Smith's sacrifice fly to deep right field.

Duffy stole second, advanced to third when obstruction was called on the Missouri-Rolla shortstop and scored on Duran's two-out double.

Stabosz registered a career-high nine strikeouts and was touched for just one hit in 6 2/3 strong innings. The run he allowed was unearned.

The Flyers host Indianapolis Tuesday in a doubleheader that begins at noon. The nine-inning opener is a GLVC contest that will be followed by a seven-inning non-league game.
