Feb. 25, 2005 BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lewis University baseball team outhit Mercy College Friday, but four errors proved costly in a 9-6 defeat in the Flyers' season opener. Phil Marchinski was 3-for-5 with an RBI for Lewis, which collected 12 hits to Mercy's nine. Brian Clancy, Jr., was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Andy Radak and Billy Duffy both went 2-for-4. Kevin Tyrrell hit a ninth-inning solo home run. Lewis starting pitcher Jon Guzzo allowed seven runs in his four innings of work, but only two were earned. Guzzo struck out three and walked four. Relievers David Scheibe and Kevin Jakubauskas allowed the Flyers to remain within striking distance. The Flyers were active on the basepaths, stealing six bases in seven attempts. |
