Track & Field Athletes Collect Two League Titles, Five All-GLVC Awards

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University placed fifth in the men's standings and tied for fifth in the women's standings at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Flyer men scored 91 points, while the Flyer women tallied 59 points.

Adrian Myers led the Lewis men, winning the 800 meters (1:53.29) and finishing second in the 1500 meters (NCAA Division II provisional qualifying 3:52.02). Myers earned All-GLVC honors, awarded to athletes placing first or second in an individual event, in both events.

Brian Finch joined Myers on the winner's stand by claiming the league title in the decathlon (6,304 points). Mike Eck was an all-conference performer in the 800 meters (second, 1:54.53).

Terran Wertz made the women's All-GLVC list with a runner-up showing in the 800 meters (2:14.83).

Alicia Wiese registered an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot put and broke Lewis track and field's longest-standing school record in the process. Wiese's third-place toss of 44-6¼ easily outdistanced Kelly Dixson's mark of 42-11 established in 1988.

Sarah King eclipsed her own school record in the pole vault, finishing third with a jump of 11-0¼.

The Lewis men received third-place performances from Scott Barnas in the shot put (50-3½) and the 4x100-meter relay team (:42.36). Pat Reaney in the decathlon (5,449), Andrew Northrup in the 10,000 meters (32:38.82), Alberto Villa in the 1,500 meters (4:00.88) and Randy Hinton in the 200 meters (:22.08) finished fourth.

Also scoring for the men's squad were Brian Pederson in the javelin (fifth, 153-5), Larry Anzalone in the 1,500 meters (fifth, 4:01.38), Hinton in the 100 meters (sixth, :10.98), Austin Bailey in the 200 meters (sixth, :22.57), the 4x400-meter relay team (sixth, 3:26.19), Chance Eiker in the pole vault (seventh, 13-9¾), Mark Martinez in the 1,500 meters (seventh, 4:01.67), Reaney in the javelin (eighth, 134-1) and Northrup in the 5,000 meters (eighth, 15:43.79).

The women's 4x100-meter relay team finished second (:47.83), Ashley Butler was third in the long jump (18-4¼) and the 4x400-meter relay quartet was fourth (4:02.49).

Also scoring for the Flyer women were Wiese in the discus (fifth, 127-9), Millennium Wheeler in the long jump (sixth, 17-3¼) and triple jump (eighth, 35-10½), Renee Koziol in the 1,500 meters (sixth, 4:48.25), Angelique McNeal in the heptathlon (seventh, 3,354) and 100 meters (seventh, :12.77), Theresa Dexl in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (seventh, 12:06.52), Becky Herbert in the 3,000 meters (seventh, 10:45.02) and Erin Mitchell in the pole vault (eighth, 10-0½).
