MACOMB, Ill. - Lewis University athletes won three events, and the Flyers finished fourth in the men's and women's standings at Western Illinois University's Lee Calhoun Memorial outdoor track and field meet. Theresa Dexl won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:59.56), while Andy Tremble won the men's 1,500 meters (3:56.49) and Andrew Northrup captured the men's 5,000 meters (15:10.35). Lewis scored 88 points in the women's meet and 85 points in the men's meet. The Flyers trailed only Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois and Augustana in each competition. The Flyer women got a runner-up finish from Amanda Lewis in the 400 meters (1:01.93) and third-place efforts from Millennium Wheeler in the long jump (16-11¼) and Alicia Wiese in the shot put (41-5). Wheeler and Wiese also secured fourth-place finishes in the triple jump (36-5½) and hammer throw (143-8), respectively, and Wiese added a fifth-place showing in the discus (132-10). Renee Koziol, Michelle Ruff and Ashley Butler also scored in multiple events. Koziol was fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:55.55) and eighth in the 800 meters (2:30.13), Ruff finished fifth in the 400 meters (1:02.53) and seventh in the 200 meters (:26.30), and Butler placed sixth in the long jump (16-1½) and seventh in the 100 meters (:12.64). Also scoring for the Lewis women were Angelique McNeal in the heptathlon (fourth, 3,578 points); the 4x400-meter relay team (fourth, 4:06.55); Kelle Lederman in the 800 meters (fifth, 2:26.64); the 4x100-meter relay team (fifth, :49.69); Angela Whalen in the 800 meters (sixth, 2:27.31); Sarah King in the pole vault (sixth, 10-0); Alana Grandau in the 100-meter hurdles (eighth, :17.45); Christine Kustra in the triple jump (eighth, 34-7½); and Cassidy Domagalla in the hammer throw (eighth, 127-9). Tremble added a runner-up performance in the 5,000 meters (15:10.50) to his victory in the 1,500. Adrian Myers placed second in the 800 meters with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:53.00, and Brian Finch was second in the decathlon (5,849 points). Austin Bailey and Randy Hinton joined Tremble as multiple scorers. Bailey was third in the 100 meters (:11.16) and fourth in the 200 meters (:22.41), while Hinton placed third in the 200 meters (:22.40) and seventh in the 400 meters (:51.72). Also scoring for the Lewis men were the 4x100-meter relay team (third, :43.13); Mike Eck in the 800 meters (fourth, 1:54.28); Pat Reaney in the decathlon (fifth, 5,058 points); Scott Barnas in the shot put (seventh, 48-6¼); Brian Pedersen in the javelin (seventh, 153-8); Donnie Lesnick in the 200 meters (eighth, :22.86); Jeff Ritzema in the 5,000 meters (eighth, 16:11.60); and James Knaperek in the 110-meter hurdles (eighth, :15.55). |
