ROMEOVILLE - Lewis University won eight of 18 events and dominated the field at the 50th annual Chicagoland Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Lewis Student Recreation Center Fieldhouse. The Flyers scored 197 points to easily outdistance runner-up North Central, which tallied 108. Chicago State (87), Saint Joseph's (70) and Valparaiso (55.33) rounded out the top five in the 18-team meet. Billy Stadele led the Flyer victory parade by winning the 55-meter hurdles (7.43, improving his NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time) and long jump (22-9). Stadele also placed second in the pole vault (15-11) for a team-high total of 28 points. Geoff Rozovics won the 200 meters in 22.26, improving his NCAA provisional standing. Also winning were Larry Anzalone in the mile (4:21.22), Andy Tremble in the 3000 meters (8:40.47), J'ean Middleton in the 200-meter hurdles (25.72), the 4x200-meter relay team of Trabion Jenkins, Mel Denham, Kellen Monroe and Rozovics (1:29.25), and the distance medley relay quartet of Juan Carrillo, Middleton, Mike Eck and Tremble (10:09.77). Byron Toliver placed second in the 55 meters (6.50) and third in the long jump (22-3½), and Sinan Khamo was second in the 5000 meters (15:38.22). Other third-place efforts came from Dave Dobersztyn in the 55 meters (6.51), Denham in the 200 meters (22.56), Richard Sims in the 400 meters (50.73), Eck in the 800 meters (1:55.01), Chris Foley in the 5000 meters (15:38.50), Josh Grys in the 200-meter hurdles (26.56), Jake Clary in the high jump (6-1½), and the 4x400-meter relay team of Rozovics, Middleton, John Archer and McCants (3:22.10). Sims and Jason Klein recorded fourth-place finishes in the 200 meters (22.78) and shot put (49-0¼), respectively. Fifth-place performances were registered by Monroe in the 55 meters (6.53) and 200 meters (22.81), Archer in the 800 meters (1:56.01) and Josh Thompson in the mile (4:25.14). Also scoring were Chance Eiker in the pole vault (sixth, 14-5¼), Carrillo in the mile (sixth, 1:56.89), Denham in the 55 meters (seventh, 6.61), Andrew Northrup in the 5000 meters (seventh, 15:58.23), Grys in the long jump (seventh, 20-10½), Darren Orange in the 3000 meters (eighth, 9:01.58) and Glenn Chesniak in the triple jump (eighth, 42-0¾). |
