Flyer Women Finish Third At Chicagoland Indoor

ROMEOVILLE - Lewis University finished third among 21 teams and was the top non-NCAA Division I squad at the 50th annual Chicagoland Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship.

The Flyers scored 76 points on their home track and trailed only Division I teams Northern Illinois (162.5) and Valparaiso (87). Saint Joseph's (74) and Carthage (60.5) rounded out the top five.

Christina James was the Flyers' top point-scorer with 16. James won the 200 meters (25.88) and finished third in the 55 meters (7.27).

Alicia Wiese and Terran Wertz each scored 11 points. Wiese finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 57-3¾, surpassing her own school record and previous NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark, and was fourth in the shot put (41-1¾). Wertz placed third in the 800 meters (2:22.23) and fourth in the mile (5:27.65).

Jasmine Williams also scored in two events, finishing fifth in the 200 meters (26.88) and sixth in the 55 meters (7.51) for a total of seven points. Becky Herbert placed third in the 5000 meters (19:11.80), Alyssa Hancock was fourth in the 55 meters (7.40) and Kaydie King finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.69).

All three Flyer relay teams scored, led by the second-place 4x200-meter squad of Hancock, Williams, James and Cathea Pitts (1:46.83). The 4x400-meter team of Angela Whalen, James, Kristin Johnson and Stormie Surles finished fourth (4:11.80), while the distance medley quartet of Theresa Dexl, Pitts, Johnson and Wertz finished sixth (13:39.09).
