ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's track and field team hosted and won the 2008 Chicagoland Indoor Championships, Friday evening at the Lewis Fieldhouse. Lewis collected 141.5 points, topping University of Chicago in second place (122 points) and North Central College in third (114.5) in the 20-team standings. Lewis student athletes registered points in all 17 events, securing five first-place finishes among 19 top-five showings. Event wins for the Flyers came from sophomore Michelle Ruff in the 200 (26.08), senior Terran Wertz in the mile (5:19.45), sophomore Ashley Butler in the long jump (5.39 meters). The Flyers' also claimed wins in the 4x200 relay (1:45.64) and the 4x400 relay (4:04.33). Ruff also scored for Lewis in the 55 (7.61), finishing in eighth. Butler took second in the same race (7.44) and also scored by finishing fourth in the 200 (26.78). 17 events Other top scoring performances for Lewis came from freshman Kathryn Hague, second in 5000 (18:29.07); freshman Samantha Linck, second in the high jump (1.57 meters); sophomore Christine Kustra, third in the 200 (26.67), third in the long jump (5.20 meters) and third in the triple jump (10.90 meters); and freshman Maggie Boban, third in the 400 (1:01.49). The Flyer men compete in the Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Saturday at University of Chicago. |
