ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Six victories and five runner-up finishes powered the Lewis University women's track and field team to a decisive triumph Friday at the Chicagoland Indoor Championship. The Flyers scored 177 points, 23 more than second-place North Central (154), in capturing their first Chicagoland title since 2003. The University of Chicago was third (90.5), with Carthage (76) and Wheaton (56) rounding out the top five. The distance medley relay team of Renee Koziol, Michelle Ruff, Kristin Johnson and Terran Wertz won the event in 12:12.47, a school record and NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying time. Alicia Wiese won the 20-pound weight throw and improved her standing on the NCAA provisional list with a toss of 52-11. Also winning were Alyssa Hancock in the 55 meters (:07.43), Angela Whalen in the 400 meters (1:01.03), Millennium Wheeler in the triple jump (37-2¼) and the 4x200-meter relay squad of Ruff, Sarah King, Ashley Butler and Angelique McNeal (1:46.14). Wiese added a second-place performance in the shot put (41-1¾). Also earning a runner-up spot were Butler in the 55 meters (:07.46), McNeal in the 200 meters (:26.73), Christine Kustra in the triple jump (35-5¼) and Rachel Quintana in the 20-pound weight throw (47-5). King finished third in the pole vault, breaking her own school record with a mark of 11-3¾, and in the 200 meters (:26.84). McNeal (55 meters, :07.50), Wheeler (long jump, 17-3½) and the 4x400-meter relay quartet of King, Whalen, Amanda Lewis and Kustra (4:05.76) also posted third-place finishes. Also scoring for the Flyers were Butler in the 200 meters (fourth, :26.90) and long jump (fourth, 17-3¼); Kelle Lederman in the 400 meters (fourth, 1:01.75); Becky Herbert in the 3,000 meters (fourth, 10:50.57); Kara Witte in the 20-pound weight throw (fourth, 45-11¾); Ruff in the 200 meters (fifth, :27.45); Lewis in the 400 meters (fifth, 1:02.37); Whalen in the 200 meters (sixth, :27.45); Erin Mitchell in the pole vault (sixth, 10-10); Koziol in the 800 meters (seventh, 2:26.61); Katie Barney in the long jump (seventh, 16-9¾); Cassidy Domagalla in the 20-pound weight throw (seventh, 42-8¼); Juliann Szablewski in the 5,000 meters (eighth, 19:29.13); and Amy Lebre in the pole vault (eighth, 9-10). |
