Flyers Enjoy Successful Prelude To Chicagoland

ROMEOVILLE - Lewis University track and field athletes established three new NCAA Division II qualifying marks, improved three qualifying marks and set two school records Saturday at the Lewis Invitational.

In addition, Flyer athletes won eight women's events and six men's events in a tune-up for next weekend's Chicagoland Indoor Championships at Lewis.

Christina James won the women's 200 meters with a provisional qualifying time of 25.85, while Richard Sims claimed the men's 200 meters with an NCAA-provisional 22.40. Andy Tremble added his name to the provisional list in the 5,000 meters with a 14:54.27 clocking, finishing second in the event.

Alicia Wiese won the women's weight throw and improved her standing on the NCAA provisional list with a school-record toss of 56-5½. Billy Stadele improved his NCAA qualifying performances in two events. Stadele won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.56, a provisional time, and placed second in the pole vault with an automatic qualifying leap of 16-9.

Erin Mitchell won the women's pole vault with a school-record jump of 10-6. Also winning for the Lewis women were Alyssa Hancock in the 55 meters (7.32); Becky Herbert in the 3,000 meters (11:22.35); Heidi Bloom in the triple jump (35-9); Wiese in the shot put (41-2); and the 4x200-meter relay team of Hancock, Jasmine Williams, Cathea Pitts and James (1:46.08).

Other winners for the Flyer men were Kellen Monroe in the 55 meters (6.49); John Archer in the 800 meters (1:56.99); the 4x200-meter relay team of Mel Denham, Trabion Jenkins, Sims and Dave Dobersztyn (1:29.02); and the 4x400-meter relay team of Geoff Rozovics, Jenkins, Denham and Mike Eck (3:26.01).
