CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Lewis University track and field teams resumed action on Saturday by competing among 700 athletes at the Eastern Illinois Mega Meet held at the Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse. Sophomore Scott Barnas turned in the best individual performance for the men by placing second in the shot put with a toss of 50-1 ¾. Barnas was one of six Lewis men to earn a top-10 finish on Saturday. Junior Patrick Walsh was fourth fastest in the 800 meters (2:31.55), senior Dan Probst claimed fifth in the shot put (48-8 ¾), senior Adrian Myers was sixth (2:31.55) and freshman Andy Lepkowski was eighth (2:33.54) in the 1000 meters and sophomore James Knaperek claimed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (:08.56) . Other notable efforts for the men came from sophomore Randy Hinton, 12th in the 200 meters (23.22); sophomore Chris Gorman, 13th in the high jump (6-0); junior Kevin Dockemeyer, 14th in the 800 meters (2:05.42); sophomore Austin Bailey, 14th in the 60 meters (7.19) and 15th in the 200 meters (23.44); freshman Chris Liebrand, 17th in the 400 meters (51.86); junior Jeff Ritzema, 19th in the mile (4:34.84); junior Pat Reaney, 21st in the 200 meters (23.84); senior Brian Pedersen, 24th in the 800 meters (2:10.96); and freshman Seth Schultz, 35th in the mile (4:52.30). On the women's side, seven Flyers posted a top-10 individual finish. Leading the way were freshmen Kathryn Hague, fifth in the 3000 meters (10:49.10); and Pierra Sobodas, seventh in the mile (5:23.68). Sophomore Christine Kustra took eighth in the triple jump (35-8), junior Rachel Quintana was eighth in the 20-pound weight throw (47-9 ¼) and 10th in the shot put (38-6), senior Sarah King was ninth in the pole vault (10-0), junior Millennium Wheeler was ninth in the triple jump (35-4 ½), and freshman Danielle Thompson took 10th in the mile (5:41.06). Kustra also took 15th in the 400 meters (1:01.41), and Wheeler also posted a 19th in the long jump (16-1 ¾). Other top finishers for the Flyers were freshman Samantha Linck, 11th in the high jump (5-2 ¼); sophomore Michelle Ruff, 15th in the 60 meters (:08.18); senior Cassidy Domagalla, 16th in the 20-pound weight throw (42-6); junior Amanda Lewis, 19th in the 200 meters (:27.71) and 26th in the 400 meters (1:05.46); freshman Maggie Boban, 18th in the 400 meters (1:02.46); senior Katie Barney, 23rd in the long jump (16-0 ¼); freshman Lauren Hajduk, 31st in the 20-pound weight throw (28-7); freshman Mackenzie Liss, 33rd in the shot put (27-9 ½); and freshman Jasmine Crenshaw, 37th in the 200 meters (:30.10). In relay action the men's distance medley took fourth (10:37.38), and the 4x400 team was 11th (3:32.11). The women's DMR was second (12:35.74), the 4x800 grabbed fifth (10:24.58) and the 4x400 was 12th (4:22.77). Lewis competes again on Friday and Saturday at the Iowa State Open. |
