Flyers Enjoy Success At Iowa State

AMES, Iowa - The Lewis University track and field teams produced three NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks and several other strong performances Friday and Saturday at the Iowa State University Open.

Josh Grys, Mike Eck and the men's distance medley relay team put themselves on the NCAA provisional list. Grys finished second in the pole vault (15-11¼), Eck was fourth in the 800 meters (1:52.79) and the DMR unit placed second (10:00.28).

Andy Tremble won the mile (4:14.78) and was joined in the race by Alberto Villa, who finished ninth (4:25.98). Dan Probst and Scott Barnas were runners-up in their events, with Probst logging a toss of 57-8¼ in the 35-pound weight throw and Barnas posting a mark of 49-3 in the shot put.

Jeff Zoellick and Andrew Northrup were fourth in the pole vault (14-11½) and 5,000 meters (15:13.10), respectively, and Adrian Myers placed sixth in the 800 meters (1:54.04).

Other notable performances for the Flyer men came from Dave Dobersztyn, 12th in the 60 meters (:07.04); Sinan Khamo, 12th in the 5,000 meters (15:50.39); Randy Hinton, 13th in the 400 meters (:50.00); and James Knaperek, 14th in the 60-meter hurdles (:08.64). The 4x300-meter relay team finished third (2:22.14) and the 4x400-meter relay squad placed seventh (3:19.53).

The Flyer women were led by Millennium Wheeler, who finished fifth in the triple jump (35-11½). Sarah King (9-6¼) and Amy Lebre (8-6¼) were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the pole vault, and Terran Wertz placed 10th in the 800 meters (2:19.70).

Also turning in solid performances were Alicia Wiese, 12th in the 20-pound weight throw (47-6½); Renee Koziol, 14th in the 800 meters (2:24.75); and Kristin Johnson, 15th in the 800 meters (2:25.59).

The Flyers were strong in the relays, finishing second in the 4x300 (2:50.98), third in the distance medley (12:26.02) and ninth in the 4x400 (4:03.19).
