ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University swimmer Jared Zimmer has been named the CollegeSwimming.com NCAA Division II National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week for his strong performance during the 2007 TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic at Carthage College on Nov. 30-Dec. 1. Zimmer, a sophomore, set a pool and meet record with an NCAA A time of 15:53.66 in a victory in the 1650 freestyle. Zimmer also recorded a victory in the 500 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 4:36.76 for an NCAA B time. Zimmer is the second Lewis swimmer in the 11-year history of the program to be honored as National Swimmer of the Week. Last season Michael Lapustin became the first Flyer to receive national honors after recording three victories in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference Championships on Feb. 21-24, 2007. The Flyers don't return to the pool till after the New Year on Jan. 4 and 5 at the Indianapolis Invitational. |
