ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University freshman Kevin Coates has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office.

In his first collegiate meet, Coates won the 1000 freestyle with an NCAA "B" cut time of 9:39.02 in a meet against Division I West Virginia. He also finished first in the 500 freestyle, stopping the clock at 4:44.16

Coates is the first GLIAC swimmer to be honored this year. Last season five Lewis swimmers were honored as swimming athletes of the week five times.

The Flyers swim next at Carthage on Nov. 3.
