ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis head swimming coach Steve Thompson has announced the addition of Emily Olson as an assistant coach to the Flyers' staff. Olson, a 2009 graduate from Northern Michigan University, was a four-time member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic team and four-time Northern Michigan Academic Award honoree. She also represented the Wildcats' swimming team on the Student Athletic Advisory committee. As a senior, she was named team captain, earned the dedication award and placed first in the 100 butterfly three times. She was part of a relay team that set a pool record in the 200 individual medley and 400 freestyle relays at the Moorhead Invitational in 2005. "Emily had a very successful career at NMU, and she understands the GLIAC and NCAA Division II goals," Thompson said. "We have been looking for stability in our assistant coach position and I am confident Emily will be a tremendous asset to our program. I am looking forward to an exciting year for Lewis swimming with Emily." The Flyers open the 2009-10 campaign on Oct. 24 in a home meet with Grand Valley State and Hillsdale.
