March 14, 2007 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis men's and women's swimming teams both received Academic All-America honors for the fall semester from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The men's team was ranked fifth in the nation among nominated NCAA Division II programs, while the women's team was 26th. "I am proud of this honor for our student athletes and the faculty at Lewis." said head coach Stephen Thompson. "I am grateful to the faculty for their efforts with our students, and I am impressed with our athletes' continued commitment to success at every level of their college experience. Certainly, being recognized by the CSCAA for our academic achievements demonstrates a successful and cooperative effort by everyone involved to develop true student athletes at Lewis." In the pool, the Flyers posted one of the best seasons in program history in 2006-07. Lewis set 11 school records during the season and had four swimmers earn conference Swimmer of the Week honors. In addition, senior Michael Lapustin became Lewis' first-ever national Swimmer of the Week. The Flyers also qualified four swimmers for the NCAA Division II championships, which run through Saturday in Buffalo, N.Y. |
