Lewis Swim Teams Named Academic All-American By CSCAA

Feb. 8, 2010

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University swimming teams have earned Academic All-American distinction by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for their performance in the classroom during the Fall 2009 semester.

The women's team tallied a 3.21 GPA and ranked second among Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools. The Lewis men were one of only 11 men's programs in Division II to report at least a 3.0 GPA, finishing with a 3.02 GPA, also second best in the conference.

"Our swimmers are proud to represent the university in the pool and the classroom," head coach Steve Thompson said. "Our Academic Advisor for Athletics, Courtney Davis, the Faculty Athletics Representative, Dr. Nancy Workman, and the faculty and staff at Lewis University have personally and positively influenced the successes of our student athletes."

It is the fourth consecutive year the Lewis program has been recognized by the CSCAA as Academic All-Americans. The award honors those programs that achieve a grade point average of 3.00 or higher in the Fall semester.

The Flyers travel to Detroit, Mich., Wednesday to Saturday, for the GLIAC Championships on the campus of Wayne State University.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 9th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
