Dec. 4, 2005 KENOSHA, Wis. - Michael Lapustin won three events and produced three NCAA Division II "B" times to lead the Lewis University men's swimming team at Carthage College's TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic. Adam Brown won two events and swam two NCAA "B" cuts, a school record and a meet record, and Jevgenijs Pesins turned in two runner-up performances for the Flyers, who scored 441 points and finished fifth in the team standings. The Lewis women, who also finished fifth (413 points), got a win and a second-place finish from Stephanie White-Olson and runner-up finishes from Michelle Sliva and the 400 medley relay squad. Lapustin won the 200 individual medley (1:54.10), 100 backstroke (51.39) and 200 backstroke (1:53.42), with all three times meeting the NCAA "B" standard. He added a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle (21.67). Brown broke his own school record in winning the 200 butterfly, and his 1:55.33 clocking was also a "B" cut and a meet record. Brown captured the 500 freestyle with another "B" cut (4:40.57) and placed fourth in the 1650 freestyle (16:30.91) and 10th in the 100 butterfly (54.82). Pesins finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:45.51) and 200 butterfly (1:55.97), ninth in the 100 butterfly (53.45) and 10th in the 200 IM (2:04.85). Steve O'Leary was third in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.45), fourth in the 400 IM (4:19.86), sixth in the 200 IM (2:00.70) and eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.77), while Tim Farmer placed seventh in the 500 freestyle (4:51.20) and 10th in the 200 freestyle (1:49.35). The 400 medley relay team finished third (3:35.91). White-Olson won the 200 breaststroke (2:28.27) and was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.94) and seventh in the 200 IM (2:17.52). Sliva was runner-up in the 200 butterfly (2:13.20), third in the 100 butterfly (1:01.65), fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:00.62) and eighth in the 200 IM (2:18.09). The second-place 400 medley relay team finished in 4:09.42. Jenny Byers and Mary Jung finished among the top eight in four events. Byers was third in the 200 IM (2:15.19) and 200 breaststroke (2:32.61), fifth in the 400 IM (4:52.92) and sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:17.88), while Jung placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:58.16), fifth in the 100 freestyle (55.24), sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:02.46) and seventh in the 50 freestyle (25.94). Tristine Schmidt was ninth in the 100 backstroke (1:05.48). |
