Swimmers Dominate In Home Opener

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis men's and women's swim team turned in a dominating performance in the Flyers' first home meet of the season, finishing first in 21 of the meet's 22 events against College of DuPage and Benedictine University Saturday afternoon at the Lewis Pool.

The men received eight first-place efforts by seven swimmers, highlighted by Adam Brown's pool-record 9:51.56 in the 1000 freestyle. Adam Olszeski swam to first in two races, finishing the fastest in the 200 IM (2:02.49) and the 500 freestyle (5:00.88).

Other first-place performances for the men were Aidan Murphy in the 50 freestyle (49.92), Jevgenijs Pesins in the 200 freestyle (1:50.19), Ryan Harrison in the 100 backstroke (57.86), Michael Lapustin in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.58) and Jared Zimmer in the 100 butterfly (56.71).

The men also swam to first in two relay races. Lapustin, Steve O'Leary, Pesins and Olszeski were fastest in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:41.50, and Lapustin, Pesins, Zimmer and Greg Marx took first in 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:21.11.

On the women's side, eight Lewis swimmers combined for nine individual first-place finishes. Stephanie White-Olson took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.87) and in the 200 IM (2:16.05).

The women's other first-place showings came from Dana Larsen in the 500 freestyle (28.25), Andrea Freisleben in the 100 freestyle (1:00.94), Nicole Marano in the 200 freestyle (2:04.22), Leigh Dodd in the 500 freestyle (5:28.36), Jackie Olivares in the 1000 freestyle (11:40.14), Bridget Bettenhausen in the 100 backstroke (1:06.19) and Michelle Sliva in the 100 butterfly (1:01.55).

Like the men, the women also earned two firsts in relay races. The 400 freestyle relay team of Marano, Bettenhausen, Dodd and Sliva turned in a 3:51.77, and the 400 medley relay team of Dodd, White-Olson, Sliva and Marano clocked a 4:09.98.

The Flyers return to the pool on December 1 when they compete at the Carthage Invitational.
