VALPARAISO, Ind.--The Lewis University swimming teams competed against NCAA Division I Valparaiso and the men's squad nearly defeated the Crusaders Friday, Nov. 12. The Flyer men won seven of the 11 events, but lost the dual meet 99-96. Lewis' women won three of 11 events and fell 136-72. Men's event winners were: Adam Brown (1000 freestyle, 10:10.90), Josh Rogers (50 freestyle, 21.90), Michael Lapustin (100 butterfly, 54.20; 100 breaststroke, 1:02.74), Kurt Niemeier (100 freestyle, 49.52), Adam Bidlack (500 freestyle, 4:58.39) and the 400 freestyle relay (Rogers, Pepke, Bidlack, Niemeier; 3:17.28). Women's event winners were: Brittany Reetz (50 freestyle, 25.37; 100 freestyle, 54.96) and the 400 freestyle relay (Leigh Dodd, Jenny Byers, Stephanie White-Olson, Reetz; 3:53.01). In addition, Dodd placed second in the 500 and 1000 freestyles. Pepke placed second to Rogers in the 50 free, while Gaspar Flores finished second to Lapustin in the 100 breaststroke. Bidlack claimed second in the 200 free (1:47.04). White-Olson was second in the 100 breast (1:11.67) by just .19 seconds. Reetz is closing in on a pair of NCAA B-cuts as she was just .46 off in the 50 free and .79 away in the 100 freestyle. For the men, Rogers missed a B-cut in the 50 freestyle by just .39 seconds. The Flyers return to their home pool as they host a double-dual against Morningside and Illinois Institute of Technology. Meet time is 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19. |
