Flyers Perform At Minnesota/Toyota Grand Prix

MINNEAPOLIS - Sophomore Jared Zimmer recorded an NCAA A time and five other Lewis swimmers recorded ten NCAA B times in the Minnesota/Toyota Grand Prix, a national meet featuring many of the best swimmers in the country.

Zimmer recorded an NCAA A time of 15:50.75 in the men's 1650 freestyle, finishing fifth place in the event.

Zimmer, freshman Kevin Coates and senior Adam Brown all recorded NCAA B times in the men's 1000 and 500 freestyle.

In the men's 1000 yard freestyle Coates finished in eighth place with a time of 9:29.04. Zimmer was not far behind with a time of 9:33.23, good for 10th place. Brown came in 16th with a time of 9:41.89.

In the men's 500 yard freestyle Zimmer placed in 19th place with times of 4:39.41 and 4:39.19. Coates finished in 23rd in the same race, recording times of 4:40.70 and 4:41.60. Brown was right behind in 24th, stopping the clock at 4:40.09 in the preliminaries and 4:42.61 in the finals.

In the men's 100 yard backstroke, sophomore Adam Olszeski notched an 18th place finish with NCAA B times of 53.57 in the preliminaries and 52.76 in the finals. Behind Olszeski in 24th place was sophomore Ryan Harrison with times of 53.66 and 54.13.

Freshman Deirdre Mikolajcik recorded her NCAA B time in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.36 and a 13th place finish. Freshman Kayla Muir came in 22nd, stopping the clock at 2:15.75.

Mikolajcik came in 23rd in the women's 100 yard backstroke, finishing with a 1:00.40 time in the preliminaries and 1:00.69 mark in the finals.

Olszeski placed 14th in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.15 in the preliminaries and 1:55.01 in the finals. Harrison placed 21st, registering a 2:00.84 time in the preliminaries and a 2:02.24 time in the finals.

Over a dozen USA Olympians and national team members competed. In addition several current and former NCAA Division I champions and All-Americans were in attendance.

Lewis holds their first home meet of the season when they welcome Wayne State to the Romeoville camps on Saturday at 1 p.m.
