Flyers Record Five Victories At Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio. - TOLEDO, Ohio. - Freshman Deirdre Mikolajcik won the 200 yard backstroke (2:08.33) and finished second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.60) but Lewis women's swimming fell 147-92 to the University of Toledo Thursday afternoon in their first meet of the 2007-08 season.

Mikolajcik's impressive collegiate debut continued in the relays, teaming with sophomore Nicole Marano, freshman Stephanie Halcomb, and freshman Carrie Borgstede to win the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:44.80).

Mikolajcik, Marano, sophomore Bridget Bettenhausen and freshman Allie Henges finished third in the 400 yard medley relay (4:08.33).

Bettenhausen recorded two wins and a third place finish. She won the 200 yard individual medley (2:19.68) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:37.16) and placed third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:12.08).

Henges had the Flyers' fourth first place finish of the day with a victory in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.59), finished third in the 200 yard backstroke (2:15.68) and fourth in the 200 yard freestyle (1:58.36) in her collegiate debut.

Following Henges in the 100 yard butterfly were freshman Sarah Griffith (1:06.77), freshman Genny Aamoth (1:07.61) and freshman Margaret O'Leary (1:09.81)

Freshman Ruth Bass earned a second place finish in the 200 Yard individual medley (2:21.22). She also had Lewis' best showing in the 500 yard freestyle (5:29.29) for a third place finish. Bass swam the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:12.36, good enough for fourth.

In the 200 yard freestyle Henges finished in fourth (1:58.36) and Borgstede in fifth (2:02.82).

Borgstede also placed third in the 50 yard freestyle (25.68).

Halcomb finished in the points with fifth place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle (26.08) and 100 yard freestyle (56.58).

Freshman Kayla Muir earned points in the first two races of her collegiate career. She finished third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.53) and fourth in the 200 yard backstroke (2:17.52).

Griffith (2:23.17) and junior Tracey Kueltzo (2:23.83) finished fourth and fifth in the 200 yard butterfly.

The Flyers will hit the pool again on Saturday in a meet at West Virginia.
