Swimming Sweeps Lincoln With 12 Victories

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis swimming team won 12 races on Saturday afternoon against Lincoln College. The men earned a 107-93 victory while the women won 94-60.

Junior Ruth Bass (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) won the 400 IM (4:42.64) and 200 butterfly (2:10.88). On the women's side freshman Orla Power (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose) won the 1000 freestyle (11:00.46). Junior Allie Henges (Cincinnati, Ohio/Purcell Marion) touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle (1:57.69). Junior Stephanie Halcomb (Springfield, Mo./Ozark) took home the title in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 25.13. Sophomore Ashley Kryger (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) earned a first place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:32.87).

Junior Catie Reese (Trafalgar, Ind./Indian Creek), senior Bridget Bettenhausen (Orland Park, Ill./Tinley Park), Henges and freshman Angela Cusack (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) combined to win the 200 yard medley relay in 1:54.58.

The Lewis men won five events. Junior Kevin Coates (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) won the 200 freestyle in 1:46.43. Freshman Matthew Schmidt (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) earned a first place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:53.69). Senior Adam Olszeski (Houston, Texas/Friendswood) touched the wall in 1:57.11 to win the 200 backstroke. Senior Jason Ament (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) won the 500 freestyle in 4:53.13. Junior Arty Czarobski (Lansing, Ill./Thorton Fractional South) earned a victory in the 200 breast stroke by winning in 2:20.75

"Some races were where they should be and some were not," head coach Steve Thompson said. "Give credit to Lincoln they're a well coached, talented team. Now we need to focus on these next three weeks leading up to the GLIACs."

Lincoln set a pool record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.42.

Lewis' final meet before the conference championships is next Saturday at Indianapolis.
