Spread Your Wings 2008-09 Official Rules / Standings
2007-08 Final Standings
Spread Your Wings is a community engagement initiative for Lewis University Athletics, incorporating the five commitment areas (academic, athletic, career development, personal development, and service) of the NCAA/CHAMPS Lifeskills program. The initiative includes a contest among all of the Athletics programs where each team is measured based on its participation. The following are the guidelines to fulfill the requirements for the various components to Spread Your Wings. General Rules: All areas are worth 100 points and are based on percentage of team participation/finish, unless otherwise noted. For example, if 6 members of a 10-person team earn at least a 3.0 GPA, the team would earn 60 points toward the overall competition (60% of team x 100). Also, if a team places 2nd out of 14 teams in the conference, the team will earn 92.8 points (13/14 x 100). Academic 1. Team members with GPA of 3.0 or higher 2. Team members who earn Lewis University Delahanty Award 3. Team members who earn Academic All-Conference 4. Team members who earn CoSIDA Academic All-District (15 point bonus per player). 5. Team members who earn CoSIDA Academic All-America (30 point bonus per player) 6. Team member who earns Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year (25 point bonus) Athletic 7. Team Conference Finish 8. Team NCAA Finish (place/# teams in tournament x 100) 9. Team members who earn All-conference 10. Team member who earns Conference Player of the Year (25 point bonus) 11. All-region players (10 point bonus per player) 12. All-America player (25 point bonus per player) Career Development 13. Team members who complete a Resume (resume must be taken to Career Services in the Leckrone Academic Resource Center (LARC) and evaluated. Bring a copy of the original resume and the edited/corrected version to Athletics to receive credit) 14. Team members who complete a Mock interview (participate in a mock interview provided through LARC). 15. Team members who complete three cover letters (find three job postings for jobs in your intended field and prepare a brief summary of why you are qualified for each position. Submit the summaries to the Athletic Department)
Personal Development 16. Team members who participate in a student organization (must be listed on organization roster and active in organization's regular business to receive credit--SAAC does not qualify). 17. Team members who attend one campus speaker event (must fill out form similar to Cultures and Civilizations and have it returned to Athletics to receive credit). 18. Team members who attend a voluntary alcohol education class or speaker (must fill out form similar to Cultures and Civilizations and have it returned to Athletics to receive credit). 19. Team members who attend a nutrition speaker or class (must fill out form similar to Cultures and Civilizations and have it returned to Athletics to receive credit). 20. Team members who attend one campus play (must fill out form similar to Cultures and Civilizations and have it returned to Athletics to receive credit).
Service Commitment 21. Team members who become involved in a mentoring program (on or off campus). 22. Team members who volunteer to tutor fellow students through the LARC. 23. Team members who participate in one community speaking engagement 24. Team members who volunteer at a soup kitchen 25. Team members who participate in SAAC's Make-A-Wish Foundation fundraiser 26. Team members who read to grade school children 27. Team members who participate in SAAC's food and clothing drive 28. Team members who are involved in other approved community service initiatives (coach and/or team must submit proposal and have it approved to receive credit; max of three per team). |
